| Connections That Go Far Beyond Wins
He has been in the hotel room in Cleveland with them; not only that, he's been to the graduation; not only that, he got us our first contract in Rhode Island. And not only that, when he fined his players one year, he gave all the fine money to the foundation." Belichick didn't give a speech or a pep talk. "He was there to lend his support and credibility and allow the gang members to meet him," Brown said. "What happens is that when someone like that comes into my living room and sits down with them, it makes them feel that they have support. They read about this guy and all that, they never expect him to come and sit down with us and be a regular guy." Russell joined Brown's Peacemakers initiative, a program to combat violence aimed at middle school and high school students, but his relationship with Belichick began after the 2001 season when New England won its first Super Bowl.
Quick Action For Housing Crisis: Market Indicators Are Tumbling
President Bush last night spent 45 seconds (including applause) addressing the severe downturn in the housing market. This morning, we were treated to the release of new data on house prices and foreclosures, each of which indicates that a more aggressive role for government is warranted to help solve the current crisis. House prices have now declined for 11 consecutive months, with November’s annual decline of 8.4 percent a record low. Seven metropolitan areas are showing double-digit declines year over year. Not surprisingly, many of the places with the steepest declines are in states with high rates of foreclosures. Foreclosures jumped 75 percent nationally for all of 2007 and nearly doubled in December, marking the fifth consecutive month with more than 200,000 foreclosures.
Committee opposes a limit on dogs
Also under the latest version, residents would have the right to seek an exemption to have more animals. "This limiting dogs I don't think is the way to go," said Phil Hart, a committee member and township trustee. Committee member Robert Thorne wanted stricter penalties for violators of the existing animal control ordinance. "So we can put a limit to bad ownership," he said. Township Public Safety Director Jerry Champagne said the ordinance was in the beginning stage. During the public-comment period, resident Candy Fromer told the committee that she lived next to a pit bull rescue shelter and that it has been terrifying for her and her family. "An animal rescue shouldn't be located in a residential area," she said.
Get smartphones
Currency conversions, countdown timers so you'll never run over on the parking meter, add-ons for personal finance programs such as Quicken and Money - there are hundreds of programs, and many of them are free. In addition to checking your email, the phones can also head onto the internet, using a bonsai version of a web browser that's called a "microbrowser". It's all a compromise, of course - the smartphones often have trouble displaying more sophisticated websites (although some sites detect you're using a smartphone and send you a stripped-down mobile version of their pages), and you have to make do with a screen not much larger than 6 centimetres. The positive is the convenience of being able to check the latest news, sports and weather on your favourite sites, search the web, catch up with the latest bidding on eBay and even use online services such as Google Maps.
